Why this character: Because I want someone who can rally Riddle's traitor Death-Eaters and use them for his own purposes. For the Greater Good. PB: Charlie Hunnam Sexual Orientation: Homosexual Personality: Gellert Grindelwald is a highly intelligent and magically skilled young man. He is charismatic, a megalomaniac, highly ambitious and very ruthless and mocking with a vicious temper that sometimes spirals out of control and leads to random acts of violence on the occasion. He is very determined to accomplish his goals and indeed sought to rule the world. He has been described as being akin to that of Adolf Hitler, whom likewise murdered people in the thousands and sought to destroy an entire race. Gellert committed many of these atrocities himself but whether or not he showed remorse for it later in life is only speculation. Being so blatantly brilliant and talented as Grindelwald was it is rather amazing that he could believe in such far fetched ideas such as the Deathly Hallows but indeed, he found them. Grindelwald's supreme confidence in himself leads him to never know or show fear, he is openly mocking and defiant even in the face of death, having goaded Voldemort into killing him during the spring of 1998. Family: Gellert's family isn't known aside from his great aunt being Bathilda Bagshot whom lived in Godric's Hollow. After he got expelled from Durmstrang Academy he went to live with her for a few months where upon he met Albus Dumbledore and the two hatched a plan to find the Deathly Hallows. Personal History: Early Life Not much is known of Gellert's childhood as the magical textbooks inside of the wizarding community do not paint much of a face on this Dark Wizard of the early 1900's. What is known about him is that he attended Durmstrang Institute but was expelled before his educational completetion for stubbornly continuing to practice and experiment in Dark Magic. His interest sparked his lifelong search of the Deathly Hallows which, after his expulsion from Durmstrang led him to Godric's Hollow where the infamous Ignotus Peverell, the keeper of Death's Invisibility Cloak was said to have been buried. Gellert stayed with his great-aunt Bathilda Bagshot in order to examine the grave sight more personally and in the mean time befriended one Albus Dumbledore whom was just as brilliant and ambitious as He. The two boys became close friends, united by their ambition for a new world order where wizards would rule over muggles "for the greater good". Their relationship was strong enough to form even a romantic attraction on Dumbledore's behalf that Gellert never really returned, but merely used that influence over Dumbledore for his own purposes. But their relationship and friendship would not last as once Aberforth Dumbledore discovered Albus and Gellert's plans for the muggles tried to dissuade Albus from their cause and sparked Gellert's uncontrollable rage whereupon he cast the Cruciatus Curse on Aberforth and sparked a duel between him, Aberforth and Albus that resulted in the Dumbledore's little sister Ariana's death. Gellert, being marked to have dealt in dark magic already did not wish to associate himself with her murder and so fled England without word, breaking all ties and relationship with Albus and his family. His Rise to Power Gellert, having fled and abandoned all contact with his once friend Albus Dumbledore delved deep into his research of the Deathly Hallows and uncovered the precise location of Death's Eldar Wand, which he broke into and stole from the renowned wandsmith, Gregorovitch. With Death's Wand in hand, Grindelwald raised his army and began his own reign of terror that, like Nazi Germany, spread all throughout Europe, leaving Britain behind, though for what reason it is never stated. Some say he feared Dumbledore who was somewhat more skillful than Gellert. During Grindelwalds reign of terror he killed thousands of people and built a prison for his opponents that he called Nurmengard, all of this in the name of 'the greater good'. In 1945 Gellert Grindelwald was finally confronted by Albus Dumbledore and they contested in the greatest duel ever fought between wizards where Gellert was overcome by Albus Dumbledore and sent home to his own prison, Nurmengard. Dumbledore became the master of the Eldar Wand. Later Life Some fifty-three years after his defeat Gellert Grindelwald, a very old and dying man by then was slain heartlessly in his prison cell by Lord Voldemort who was seeking the Eldar Wand. Grindelwad showed no fear of Voldemort and provoked the man into killing him, mocking and defiant to the very bitter end and died with a last laughing taunt at Voldemort before he was murdered by the Killing Curse in spring of 1998.
